Terms of Service

Last updated: 1 October 2026 · Version 1.2

These terms are the agreement between you and [to be confirmed: registered company name], which operates Biometrica. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. How we handle your information is set out separately in the privacy policy, which forms part of this agreement.

1. What Biometrica is

Biometrica is a web application that turns blood test results into a record you can read. You upload the results a laboratory has already given you; it extracts each biomarker, tracks it over time against reference ranges, generates written insights, and lets you ask questions about your own numbers. You can generate a requisition to take to a lab, and connect Strava so your training sits next to your bloods.

2. What Biometrica is not — please read this one

Biometrica does not give medical advice. It organizes and explains your lab results. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat any condition — always talk to a qualified clinician about your health decisions.

We are not a laboratory and we do not take samples or perform tests. A requisition generated here is a patient request for blood work, not a prescription: the healthcare provider you take it to decides what is actually done. The written insights and the assistant's answers are generated automatically from your results and may be incomplete or wrong; treat them as a starting point for a conversation with your doctor, never as a reason to start, stop or change a treatment.

If you think you have a medical emergency, contact emergency services or your doctor — not this application.

3. Your account

  • You must be 18 or older to use Biometrica.
  • Give us accurate details and keep your password to yourself. What happens under your sign-in is your responsibility; tell us straight away if you think someone else has access.
  • Upload only your own results, or the results of someone who has asked you to and understands what that means. Never upload another person's health information without their consent.
  • Your profile details — sex, date of birth, units — change how your results are interpreted. If they are wrong, what the app shows you will be wrong.

4. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • use the service to make clinical decisions for other people, or present its output as a diagnosis;
  • try to reach another account's data, probe or attack the service, or get around its limits, its rate limits or its billing;
  • scrape it, resell access to it, or use it to build a competing product;
  • upload anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to upload.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or that puts other customers' information at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right.

5. Plans, and what you pay

  • Prices are in South African rand and are shown, per plan, on the pricing page. Every plan is billed either monthly or annually; an annual plan is charged once for the year.
  • Payment is by card through PayFast, a South African payment processor. You enter your card details on PayFast's own page. Biometrica never sees, receives or stores your card details.
  • There is a free plan. You can create an account, upload a result and use the app within the free plan's limits without paying anything.
  • Paid monthly plans include a 14-day free trial, no card required. One trial per account, once. When it ends — or if you cancel it before it does — the account returns to the free plan and carries on within that plan's limits. Nothing you uploaded is lost, and ending a trial never leaves you worse off than you were before you started it.
  • The Senior plan is for customers aged 60 or older. Taking it if you are not is a breach of these terms.
  • Each plan's limits — how much you can store, how many report interpretations and assistant conversations you get each month — are shown with the plan. They may change; we will tell you in the app before a change that reduces what you have.

6. Renewal, cancellation and refunds

  • A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it. We remind the account's administrator 7 days and 3 days before a renewal, in the app and by push notification if it is switched on — we do not send that reminder by email.
  • You can cancel at any time from your subscription settings — an account administrator does this; there is no phone call and no retention maze. Cancelling stops the renewal, not the access. You have already paid through the end of the current period, so the plan and everything it grants stay exactly as they are until that date — we do not cut you off early. After it, the account can be read but not added to, and about a week later it moves to the free plan and can be used within that plan's limits. A trial is simpler: nothing was paid through, so cancelling it, or letting it lapse, puts the account straight onto the free plan.
  • Ending a subscription never deletes your data. Your results, history and insights stay, and you can still read them. When a paid subscription ends, what stops is everything that adds to them — new uploads, new report interpretations and new assistant conversations — until the account is on a plan again, free or paid. Deleting your data is a separate thing that only happens when you ask for it — privacy policy, section 9.
  • If a renewal payment fails, we mark the subscription overdue, but you keep the plan and everything it grants until the end of the period you have already paid for — the same as if you had cancelled. After that date the account can be read but not added to. You have 7 days from then to put the payment right and keep the plan; if it is not put right, the account moves to the free plan and can be used within that plan's limits again. Retries are handled by PayFast.
  • Changing plan means taking out the new plan; we do not pro-rate the part of a period you have already paid for.
  • Refunds. Payments are not refunded, in whole or in part, for a period that has started. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and your access lasts to the end of the period you have already paid for. This does not affect any right to a refund that the Consumer Protection Act or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives you.
  • Price changes apply from your next renewal, never mid-period, and we will tell you in the app before they take effect.

7. Your data, and ours

Your results and everything you put into Biometrica remain yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your files, read the numbers off them, generate insights and show it all back to you. We do not sell it and we do not use it to train anything for anyone else.

The application itself — the software, the biomarker catalogue, the reference ranges, the design and the name — is ours, and using the service does not give you any right in it beyond using it.

You can export your data and delete your account from inside the app; for an organization it is an administrator who runs the export. What each one reaches, and what has to be asked for instead, is set out in the privacy policy, section 9.

8. Availability

We work to keep Biometrica available and correct, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may take it down for maintenance, change how features work, or retire one — and where a change materially reduces what you are paying for, we will tell you in the app before it happens.

Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. The export in section 7 is there for exactly that.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — in particular for death or personal injury caused by our gross negligence, for fraud, or for anything the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 says may not be excluded. Your rights under that Act and under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 stand whatever these terms say.

Subject to that: the service is provided as it is; we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for any decision — clinical or otherwise — taken on the strength of what the application showed you; and our total liability arising out of this agreement in any twelve-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period.

Biometrica is an information tool. Health decisions belong to you and your clinician.

10. Ending this agreement

You can stop using Biometrica whenever you like: cancel the subscription, or delete the account outright from Account → Delete account. We may close an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, or for non-payment after the 7 days in section 6. If we close your account for a reason other than a breach, we will give you a reasonable chance to export your data first.

11. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms we update the date at the top and tell you in the app before the change takes effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree with them, cancel and, if you want, delete your account.

12. Governing law and disputes

This agreement is governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it.

Talk to us first — most things are a misunderstanding and we would rather fix it. Write to us through the contact form. If that does not resolve it, a consumer may refer a complaint to the National Consumer Commission or an accredited consumer ombud, and a complaint about your personal information goes to the Information Regulator — the details are in section 11 of the privacy policy.
