Frequently asked questions
The questions we are asked most often.
What is Biometrica?
Biometrica is a health and wellness company that uses advanced biometric insights to create personalized health plans. We combine your blood test results with the training you log through Strava to build a picture of your physiology, and help you use it to work towards optimal health and longevity.
What is a Biomarker?
A biomarker is a measurable indicator of a biological condition or state. Examples include blood glucose levels, cholesterol levels, and various hormone levels. Biomarkers are used to assess and monitor health and disease states.
How can this benefit me?
By analysing your biomarkers, Biometrica provides personalized recommendations for diet, supplements, and lifestyle changes. These insights can help you improve your health, energy levels, and longevity, tailored specifically to your unique physiology.
Do you draw the blood?
No. Biometrica is not a lab and does not take samples. You use whichever lab or clinic you prefer and bring the results here. You can build a requisition first so the draw covers the panel you actually want.
Is this medical advice?
No. Biometrica organizes and explains your results. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is not a substitute for a qualified clinician. Take what you find here to your doctor — that is exactly what it is good for.
What is lifespan?
Lifespan refers to the total number of years a person lives. It is a measure of longevity without necessarily considering the quality of health during those years.
What is health span?
Health span is the period of life during which a person is healthy and free from serious or chronic illness. Biometrica aims to extend your health span by promoting wellness and preventing disease through personalized recommendations.
Is my data private?
Your health data is yours. It travels over TLS, every account is isolated from every other at the database level by row-level security, and it is never sold or handed to data brokers. One thing to know before you invite anyone: a family plan puts everyone in one shared space — see the next answer.
Who has access to my data?
On a single-person plan, only you — nobody at Biometrica reads your results. On a family plan everyone has their own login, but the results all sit in one shared space, so everyone on the plan can see them. That is the point of it for a household tracking together, but it does mean a family plan is not the way to keep your results to yourself.
What does the AI assistant actually see?
It answers against the results in your own account, so it can tell you what your ferritin has been doing rather than what ferritin is in general. It is there to help you understand and prepare questions, not to make decisions for you.
Are there group discounts?
Group pricing is not published — there is no group plan in the catalog today. If you want to put a group on Biometrica, contact us and we will work it out with you.
Do you offer corporate discounts?
Nothing is published for companies yet, so there is no corporate rate to quote you. If you are looking at Biometrica for your employees, contact us and we will talk it through.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes — there is a free plan. You can create an account, upload a result and see the app working before deciding whether a paid plan is worth it to you.
Can I cancel?
Any time, from your subscription settings — no phone call, no retention maze. On a family plan that is the account’s admin, since the subscription belongs to the account rather than to each member. Cancelling ends the paid features: insights, the assistant and new uploads stop. Your existing record is not deleted; that only happens if you ask for it.
Will you remove access to my data?
We will not remove your data unless you ask us to. Your access to insights and recommendations becomes unavailable if you do not have an active subscription, but the record stays. You have the right to request the removal of your data at any time — ask, and it is deleted. You can also export everything you have put in, plus what Biometrica derived from it, and take it with you.
Which payment options do you provide?
Card payment in South African rand, handled by PayFast — Biometrica never sees or stores your card details. Monthly and annual billing are both available; the pricing page has the current figures.
Can my doctor access my data?
Yes. Export your data and take it to any appointment — nothing is locked in a format only Biometrica can read. Sharing it helps your healthcare provider understand your health and give more informed care.
Can I see data of my family?
Everyone on a family plan has their own login, but the results are held in one shared space rather than in linked private ones — so everyone on the plan sees them. It suits a household that wants to track together; if you want your results kept to yourself, take a single-person plan.
Can I connect a fitness tracker?
Strava is supported today, so your training sits next to your bloodwork. Other integrations are not available yet, and we would rather say that than list them as "coming soon".
How often do I need to draw blood?
We recommend drawing blood once or twice a year. Regular testing helps monitor your progress and allows us to update your personalized action plan based on the latest data.
What insights can I get from analysing my blood?
Analysing your blood provides insights across over 90 biomarkers, including nutritional status, metabolic health, hormone levels, cardiovascular health, and inflammation markers. These insights help tailor recommendations to improve your overall health to ensure optimal bodily function and performance.
What blood tests do I need to do?
The specific blood tests depend on your individual health needs. Typically, tests include comprehensive panels that measure various vitamins, minerals, hormones, cholesterol levels, and inflammatory markers. Build a requisition in the app to see the panels and pick the markers you want covered.
Can you recommend healthcare professionals?
Not yet — Biometrica does not run a practitioner network or directory, and we would rather tell you that than point you at something that does not exist. What it does do is get your results into a form you can take to a professional you already trust.
How much does a blood test cost?
That is between you and your lab — the draw and the panel are billed by whoever takes the sample, and the cost varies by test and institution. Biometrica charges only for the subscription that reads and tracks the results; those figures are on the pricing page.
Do I need a prescription to draw blood?
In most cases, you do not need a prescription to draw blood. This can depend on the service provider you choose. However, some tests may require a doctor’s order.
Where can I draw blood?
At any lab or clinic you like — Biometrica is not tied to one. Build a requisition in the app, take it with you, and upload whatever the lab sends back.
How many sets of blood results can I upload?
There is no cap on how many times a year you can upload. What differs between plans is what each one includes — the pricing page lists that in full.
How can I access my recommendations?
Your personalized recommendations live in the Biometrica web app — the same account on your phone’s browser as on your desktop. After your data is analysed, you will find detailed guidance on diet, supplements, and lifestyle changes tailored to your needs.
