Cookie policy

The short version

Biometrica uses the minimum a signed-in application needs: a cookie that keeps you signed in, and a few notes about how you like things displayed. There are no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers. That is also why you never see a cookie banner here — there is nothing to consent to.

Strictly necessary

A session cookie is set when you sign in. It is httpOnly (JavaScript on the page cannot read it), Secure in production, and SameSite-restricted, which is what stops another site from acting as you. Without it you cannot stay signed in, so it cannot be turned off while you are using the application.

If you connect Strava, a second cookie, strava-oauth-state, is set for the trip to Strava and back. It proves that the connection coming back is the one you started in this browser, so nobody else can attach their Strava account to yours. It is httpOnly and Secure, lasts at most ten minutes, and is deleted the moment you return.

Preferences

A few small things remember how you like the app displayed. None of them identifies you, and none is used for anything else.

• Theme — whether you chose light or dark, stored locally in your browser so the app does not flash the wrong theme on load. It never leaves your device.
• Clock format (time_format) — whether you want 24-hour or 12-hour times. A cookie, because the page is rendered on the server and has to know before it draws.
• Sidebar (sidebar_state) — whether you left the navigation sidebar open or collapsed, remembered for a week so the page does not reopen it on you.
• Time zone (tz) — the zone your browser reports, so timestamps read in your local time instead of UTC. It holds a zone name such as Africa/Johannesburg, nothing more.
• Region (market) — set only when you click to stay on this site or to go to our other one (biometrica.co.za for South Africa, biometrica.me elsewhere), so we stop offering you the other site. It holds za or intl, kept for a year on this site only; it is never sent to the other site.

These cookies are limited to this site and carry no secret — clearing them just returns the display to its defaults.

What we do not use

No analytics or advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, no social media pixels, and no profiling for marketing purposes.

Managing cookies

Your browser can block or clear cookies for this site at any time. Clearing the session cookie signs you out; it does not delete your account or your results. To remove your data itself, see the privacy policy or contact us.
